The START
Shelter Alliance Project
(SSAP)

We make strategic partnerships so that

we can save lives.

START is dedicated to forming strategic partnerships with animal shelters, particularly those facing overflow and high euthanasia rates. Our mission is to enhance the welfare of shelter animals and save as many lives as possible. We target overflowing shelters with dedicated staff or volunteers who are passionate and ready to collaborate for meaningful change. Our extensive experience in animal rescue has proven that these committed partnerships are key to success.

Why we do it

The problem of shelter overcrowding and high euthanasia rates is complex and multifaceted. By working closely with shelters and their communities, we aim to create sustainable solutions that not only address immediate needs but also foster long-term improvements in animal welfare. The ultimate goal is to build a network of capable, well-resourced shelters where every animal has the best possible chance of finding a loving home.Through the START Shelter Alliance Project, we believe that together, with dedication and coordinated efforts, we can make a significant difference in the lives of shelter animals and move closer to a world where every animal is valued and cared for.

Grants and grant writing

START offers grants and professional assistance in grant writing to shelters. This financial support helps shelters to improve their facilities, provide better care for animals, and fund various rescue and welfare projects. START ensures that the funds help THE ANIMALS directly.

Networking

We actively network animals who are at risk of euthanasia to find them new homes or placements in no-kill shelters. This involves leveraging our connections and resources to give these animals a second chance.

Spay and Neuter

We sponsor and support spay and neuter programs both within shelters and in the broader community. These initiatives are crucial for controlling the pet population and preventing future overcrowding in shelters.

Transport

We organize and facilitate the networking and then the transport of animals from overcrowded shelters to those with more space and resources. We only transport to trusted partner rescue orgahnizations who have signed contracts with START Rescue ensuring that every animal is cared for and never ends back up in a shelter.
