H.O.P.E. Program
Our START Rescue Resale store is not only a nonprofit thrift store. It has also become a resource for homeless humans and their pets. The city and county social services are extremely complicated and frustrating to navigate and there is not much in the way of help for furry companions.
We created H.O.P.E. (Homeless Owners and Pets Effort) as a way to help.
Our store acts as a mailing address (to receive social services, anyone who is homeless must have a mailing address). Our volunteers collect and distribute clothing and pet supplies, provide meals to both two-legged and four-legged, pick up medicines, shuttle the homeless' pets to vet appts and their people to social services appts, and we assist with filling out countless applications and forms, follow-up emails, phone calls on their behalf and a myriad of other tasks that present themselves on a daily basis!
We recently helped OLIVE (pictured below). She needed emergency dental surgery and our wonderful vet, Dr. Daniel Slaton, provided OLIVE with her much needed surgery at a very reduced rate of $900.

We also helped our friend Jimmy (pictured below). A big THANK YOU to Dr. Sean Ebrahimian of Sherman Oaks Dental Care and Orthodontics for giving Jimmy $40K worth of permanent new teeth for FREE!

This is Jimmy and BOOTS at the START Rescue Resale Store. START has helped Jimmy and BOOTS and in turn they have helped us with odd jobs around the store.
Jimmy and BOOTS are both AWESOME!

OLIVE and her human, Ramin, live on the street, but because of HOPE, OLIVE doesn’t have to live in pain.
